An archive of authentic antique limestone mantels.

Every mantel is solid reclaimed limestone, carved, weathered, and chosen by hand.
History, reclaimed with care.
At Ancient Surfaces we are committed to preserving the elegance and history of architectural antiquity. We reclaim and restore antique limestone mantels, turning chimneypieces that warmed rooms centuries ago into the quiet centre of homes being built today. A hearth is where a house gathers, and we think it deserves stone with something behind it.
Our artisans specialise in reclaimed limestone fireplace mantels of every character. French Louis XV mantels with scrolled volutes, Italian Renaissance chimneypieces on carved columns, Tudor arches, and plain provincial surrounds where the stone does all the talking. Each limestone mantel is cleaned, stabilised and conserved with respect for the patina it arrived with. We are careful never to restore that away.
Ancient Surfaces has appeared on the front covers of Architectural Digest in May 2011 and LUX Magazine in November 2012, which says something about how our limestone mantels and architectural antiques are regarded within the design world.
We supply antique limestone mantels to private residences across Manhattan, Jersey City and Newark, and to projects nationwide that are after genuine historical elegance. Every reclaimed limestone mantel carries a story, and through careful restoration that story becomes part of how a family lives now.

Restraint, always.
We do not over restore, we do not reproduce, and Ancient Surfaces has never sold a cast or copied mantel. Every limestone fireplace mantel here is genuine, singular and chosen by hand. The collection grows slowly on purpose.
