Grand Carved Limestone Mantel with Winged Acanthus Corbels

A commanding reclaimed limestone mantel, crowned by a heavy stepped cornice. Shields and rosettes run across the frieze, and the jambs carry tall winged acanthus corbels that fall the full height to the hearth. Photographed in a pale, quiet room, the carving reads in every raking shadow.
