Louis XV Limestone Mantel with Carved Floral Cartouche

The serpentine frieze is centred on a floral cartouche carved by hand, and the whole thing rests on generous scrolled volutes that curve outward toward the hearth. Centuries of use have taken the stone to a soft ivory cream and rounded every edge that a chisel once left sharp.
