Outdoor Limestone Mantel for Loggias and Terraces

A simple stepped shelf on square jambs, installed here in an ochre plastered loggia above a floor of antique stone tiles. The plainness is deliberate. Outdoors, limestone weathers into the architecture around it rather than competing with it, and a heavily carved piece would only fight the light.
